Whee, more projects

Since my last update, I took on two more projects. While cleaning out the study, I decided that my desk really needed refinishing. The shots aren't apples to oranges due to the lighting, but here's a before and after:

The left side is where I've sanded down the surface to the bare wood, the rest is the really nasty surface that kept giving me splinters. After much sanding, two coats of red mahogany stain and three coats of high gloss polyurethane later, it looks like this:

Not bad, eh? I only redid the desktop; there's a side surface that I'll take care of next week (time permitting) but daaaaamn, a pretty good return on time investment!

The second project was that I decided to rip out the carpet from the study, put down hardwood, and repaint the room. I'll spare you the horror of the before shot, but here's the current, floor-just-put-down "almost after" work in progress shot:

The trim still needs painting and quarter-round installed, but I'll start on that once the floor adhesive has cured (around sunset tonight). And then I can move the stuff back into the study and finish the purple bedroom.
