Zoo PHX
I have a thing for Zoos. I make it a point to hit the local zoological gardens whenever I go somewhere that offers one. I get to see interesting things up close that I will probably never get to see in the wild; I get to refine my photographic techniques and perhaps capture an amazing image; but most of all, I get to watch, observe, and learn. Oh, and look at strange animals too.
Zoos are a great place to people-watch. People's reactions tell you so much about what they value; how their children act tell even more. Do they watch and learn, asking questions? What questions do they ask? are they lugging around sugared beverages making lots of noise? Do they show any consideration for other people around them? So many little details for those who look.
But I digress. Two days after I arrived in Phoenix, I went to the Phoenix Zoo with my sister Ayla. We tromped around all day and got in some quality time together. True to form, I took lots of photos, but unfortunately they mostly sucked -- in part due to the heavily overcast day, but mostly due to my somewhat out-of-it mental state. I just never managed to get into the groove.
Despite its technical flaws, this is my favorite image from this trip: Those of you familiar with old-sk00l adventure games ought to recognize what I saw:

Food for thought: The Phoenix Zoo is the only reason the Arabian Orynx hasn't gone extinct.
