Navel gazing in Flagstaff, AZ

As I write this in a seedy motel room leeching an internet connection from an open access point of a more affluent hotel, it's 12 degrees outside, and expected to drop to closer to 2 later tonight.

It's been an interesting past few days, cooped up with my sisters. The usual family dynamics are in play, my own included. What's eerie is how they are reminding me of Crystal. Or perhaps it is more accurate to say Crystal reminded me of them. Awareness cuts both ways. Navel-gazing, indeed..

In the morning, we tank up on food and fuel and head out to the Grand Canyon. The weather is supposed to be sunny and clear, but one never knows. It's beautiful up here -- what was an all-day rainstorm in Phoenix dumped an even greater amount of snow on Flagstaff. Hopefully, the wussy trails around the Canyon will be navigable!

Even if not, there will still be photo ops galore. I hope I can do it justice!

We'll probably head back to Phoenix on Monday, after which I'll finally have some time to myself -- I'll explore some of the interesting places closer to Phoenix and scout out a place to watch the sunrise on New Year's day.

Alone, unfortunately. And fortunately. The wrong sorts of people suck the life out of you... and the less I have to do with them, the better. Still, the right sorts are out there, probably enjoying the spectacle that is nature, as I will be. It's good to be alive.
