Frances, we hardly knew thee

It is said that happy and/or busy people do not keep journals. It also helps if one has an internet feed.

Hurricane Frances has come and gone, leaving the eastern coast of Florida in shambles; this is despite being downgraded to a mere category 2 storm. We got damn lucky.

The Peachy homestead came out of the storm fairly well. Lots of shingles torn off the roof (which is some 15 years old now) and some seepage through the foundation which ruined the carpet in the extra room. I already have the replacement tile picked out. :)

Unfortunately, the roof damage let some water in, which leaked through into the Florida room, which in turned ended up directly in my laptop. Which is an interesting story in of itself, but it works now.

Power remained on, except during the worst of the storm. We lost water after it was almost over, and the cable (read: Internet) feed went out pretty early on. Power came back on at work on Friday, and things are a bit nuts now.

I spent the weekend repairing the roof; it's mostly done save for a handful of spots where I need to do some cementing. I replaced some 78 singles (12x36"), including two bald spots.

Next up, harassing the insurance company and FEMA to see what I can get them to pay for...
