Dissected one of the brand-new "Xbox-ready" Microsoft broadband wireless kits. Turns out their USB widget at least works extremely well with Linux -- Prism2.5-based, and it even has the newer firmware that fixes the port reset problems we had in the past. Their AP/Router thingey is also prism2.5-based, and is an engineering marvel -- they had a custom ASIC built to do most of the work. Extremely clean board. And at $170 for the pair at Sam's, they're gonna sell a few of these things. :)
I also had a look-see at the newer versions of the Wireless Extensions API, with the design of implementing better support in linux-wlan-ng. So the first batch is to properly version the IOCTLs already in, then I'm going to start working on the V12+ hooks, and then start hooking up the 'get' ioctls one by one. Low priority back-burner work, but it really needs at least the 'get' stuff.
It also seems that my locking rewrite might not be quite SMP-safe. So I've tweaked it a bit, and put up a patch for anyone that's interested here. Although the hardware claims that BAP accesses are safe (BAP setup isn't) empirical evidence suggests otherwise. If this fixes the SMP problems, it'll go into the mainline. Too bad my SMP box (issues) doesn't like me any more.
In other news
New front rotors+pads went on this morning. Wow, what a difference. They haven't been fully broken-in yet, but the brakes already perform better than the stuff I pulled off. And that stuff was better than the average brake-shop puts on. :)
I also saw just what a leaking CV boot will do.. although I had it replaced a few months ago, there's still a very thick layer of axle grease all over everything. I only lost one chunk of flesh during the operation, though as usual some of the grease spots on my skin will have to wear off..
Next up is the exhaust leak. Monday morning I'm ordering a replacement Y-pipe (I'm fairly certain the old one has snapped..) The brake lines will get done when they show up eventually, and I'll see if the rear brakes need work. (Unlikely) Then come the new tires, and maybe even a car wash. It's only been about two years since the last one. :)
